Ai WeiWei: Never Sorry

Ai Weiwei is China’s most famous contemporary artist, and its most outspoken domestic critic. One of his well known structures was for the 2008 Olympics, he collaborated with Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron as the artistic consultant for the Beijing National Stadium. Never Sorry is a documentary on the artist that is set to screen in Seattle early August. Watch the trailer below and keep your eye out for show times in your city!

Ted Talk: Bjarke Ingels: 3 Warp-Speed Architecture Tales

We’ve been passing around this particular Ted Talk via email to a bunch of our creative folks, but it’s too awesome to not share with everyone else. Prior to finishing the Business Program at UW, I was an aspiring architect. Watching this reminded me why I wanted to be one. Sustainable architecture was what drew me into that industry, but this fella took it to the next level by integrating his eco-bold designs with natural, urban surroundings and its occupants in mind.

Once you get passed his shirt, goofy posture, and accent, you learn how brilliant this man and his team are. Things start getting super juicy towards the last 10 minutes (most especially the last 5 minutes), but take the 20 minutes time to really get moved and inspired.

Art as Social Intervention

In Botafogo Beach, Rio de Janeiro, an installation made of recycled plastic bottles is on display as part of the Rio+20 Earth Summit. In 2013, New York’s Water Tanks will be wrapped with custom-designed artwork by Jeff Koon and other artists to raise public awareness of the importance of protecting a natural resource, water. It’s great to see more and more of these large scale public art installations that engage the public on social/environmental concerns. And definitely inspiring when art becomes a medium for social engagement and in turn evoking the public to take action.

We recently had the wonderful opportunity to collaborate with 826 Seattle, a local non-profit writing and tutoring center dedicated to helping the youth improve their creative and expository writing skills, and to helping teachers inspire their students to write.

Sommelier Identity System

We really appreciate the simplicity of the technique in the ID System design for Sommelier. The layout and presentation really allows the brand to speak without words. With that said, we admire the thought and elegant execution.
