Art as Social Intervention

In Botafogo Beach, Rio de Janeiro, an installation made of recycled plastic bottles is on display as part of the Rio+20 Earth Summit.  In 2013, New York’s Water Tanks will be wrapped with custom-designed artwork by Jeff Koon and other artists to raise public awareness of the importance of protecting a natural resource, water.  To learn more about this project click here.

It’s great to see more and more of these large scale public art installations that engage the public on social/environmental concerns. And definitely inspiring when art becomes a medium for social engagement and in turn evoking the public to take action.
